Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once and possess it; we are well able to conquer it. Numbers 13:30 This verse reflects Caleb and Joshua’s comments about the promised land after the twelve spies returned with their surveillance reports. All of them reported that the land was amazing and the crops were bountiful. The samples they brought back with them were enormous, so big that it took two men to carry one cluster of grapes! Everything was as God had said. BUT ten of the spies focused on the one thing – the people in the land were like giants. Those spies focused on the one negative part of the report and ignored what God had said to do – Take the land. They reported to the people out of fear.
Only Caleb and Joshua encouraged the Israelites to obey God. If He directed them to do it, then He would provide the victory. Caleb’s advice was to go up at once and possess it; we are well able to conquer it. Caleb and Joshua reported out of trust. As I read this verse, I realized that he said to go up at once so they didn’t have time to think about how hard it would be or how difficult the circumstances were. There have been times in my life that I know what God wanted me to do but the more I thought about it, the more excuses I gave to talk myself out of obeying. By focusing on the problems, I gave into fear and usually disobeyed. I am learning that instant obedience to God’s direction makes victory easier. When I stay focused on Him and His leading, my Father works out all the details. Am I still afraid sometimes when I step out in faith? Yep. But I have learned that God is always right there with me and helps me conquer my fear and the enemy.
The more I take action immediately, the easier it is and the less fear I experience. Trust has become a habit, my way of life. That has increased the victories in my life and decreased fear and anxiety. With God, “We are well able to conquer it” whatever “it” is the challenge. What if God wants you to step out immediately to possess whatever He has waiting for you? What if God says that you and He together are well able to conquer every challenge you face?
